I put it out on the Internets just for fun and almost forgot about it as it was after all just a pet project. What made it unique is its use of delta copying (whereby it would only copy modified parts of every file after the initial copy) and its real-time (continuous) backup mode.

Here's a couple of screenshots just to spruce up the thread, but go and see the website, there's plenty more.Īs you may or may not know, original Bvckup was a simple directory cloning tool that I wrote for my own use back in 2009. Please let me know if this causes any trouble for you.I'd like to announce that my long-running backup project is finally feature-complete and available for public testing!Ĭheck it out here - or read on for the summary and what's new in the v2. However unless you are doing something very out of the ordinary, I doubt you will have any issues. So be warned that this may cause problems.
IS BVCKUP 2 GOOD HOW TO
How to enable version controlīvckup 2 actually has a “hidden” feature in Bvckup 2 called archive\_modified which enables file versioning. And I don’t mean the horrible implementation of file history, because it cant be trusted at all. Let’s hope Microsoft is catching up soon.

IS BVCKUP 2 GOOD MAC
Mac users are probably laughing right now because they have Time Machine for years. With version control you will have multiple backup versions. With backup you will only have the most recent backup. That is exactly why you need version control (not backup)! You check your backup… and HEY! You have a backup file, great! 😃👍 But hold on… That backup is also missing 10 pages, because the backup was made recently. So, for example, if you are working on a document and you realize you have accidentally deleted 10 pages in the document. Without “version control” (a.k.a file history) you would backup a file, and every time the original file is changed, the backup gets overwritten by the latest change. Let’s say you do not have version control.

What is version control?įile control, file versioning, file history, version control – are all different names for what is commonly known as “Versioning file system”. You really need to be able to go back in time sometimes. Especially when you are editing the same file over and over. The only feature I am missing is “version control”. I have used it for some years now and it really is superb.
